Our Heartbeat: Loving Lisa

AutumnGrove has been blessed to have some of the best cottage managers in the industry. They all have a passion for helping others and those with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The Humble Cottage manager, Lisa, is no exception. She has an unconditional love for her residents and her staff that is quite admirable with a strong passion to improve her residents’ lives in any way she can.

Lisa has been the manager at the Humble Cottage for almost three years and through all of the obstacles and opportunities she has risen to each with such grace and determination that only she can do. Being a manager of an Alzheimer’s assisted living can be challenging. The residents’ needs, behaviors and personalities change on a daily basis because of the disease. Some days residents are peaceful and sweet and the next they might be disoriented and scared. As a manager, one has to be flexible and understanding to know how to comfort each resident. Lisa has this ability far beyond any that I have seen. She can take a few minutes and talk to a resident that is having a tough day and show them such love and kindness that their moods change and they become happier. No matter the situation, Lisa constantly reminds her residents how much she loves them and will always be there for them. She is such a positive role model for her caregivers that they have developed long lasting friendships.

DSC_0557_zps0df28601Lisa has a knack for creating fun and happy memories with her residents and family members. Between a rockin’ News Year Eve party, and fun summer activities such as “Who Can Make the World’s Biggest Bubble?” there is never a dull moment around the Humble Cottage. Every holiday, birthday and anniversary is recognized and celebrated. The strong resident family support and involvement makes events and celebrations extra special. You can catch many of them at meal time around the cottage chatting with Lisa, the caregivers and all of the residents.

Between caring for her residents, being a role model for her caregivers, planning cottage parties and visiting with family members, Lisa never seems to run out of love for all of it. She is one of those people who truly enjoys her job and the people she works with. Her example serves as a challenge for each of us to show unconditional love and kindness to the people around us no matter the situation. Thank you Lisa for loving and caring the way you do! You are truly one of a kind.
